I thought we'd OUTLAWED this behavior!

CIA Escalates in Pakistan

WASHINGTON—The U.S. military is secretly diverting aerial drones and weaponry from the Afghan battlefront to significantly expand the CIA's campaign against militants in their Pakistani havens.
... like, back in the '70s of the last century, didn't we pass legislation prohibiting CIA from overt acts of war???

... or is my memory just faulty???

p.s. What, I wonder, would be U.S. response if Mexico unleashed predator drones to take out suspected drug kingpins in Arizona?

  1. How's about we just outlaw war.

That proposal is about as realistic as the rest of your fantasy world.

  2. SBVOR: coupla things.
thing1: just in case you hadn't noticed, we've been killing bad guys in afghanistan & pakistan for about 9 years. i stopped keeping track of all the 'senior al qaeda/taliban commanders' we've killed quite a while ago. there are no fewer bad guys now than before.

thing2: if we're going to continue this pointless policy, i'd prefer it be conducted by the military, where command structure - hence accountability - is somewhat more transparent. cia running shadow military operations has gotten us into trouble in the past - no reason to believe it'll work out well this time.

thing3: perhaps if $$$ allocated to cia (i've no clue how much this is - it's classified!) were devoted to gathering/analyzing/interpreting intelligence, cia would actually produce useful, actionable intelligence... as opposed to wasting $$$ on quasi-military operations.

thing4: i suppose you can fight wars by blowing things up, but WINNING wars depends on controlling territory & populations. blowing things up gets us no closer to controlling territory and populations.

  3. Ah, I see you've met our friend SBVOR. If you can get through all of the rhetoric, insults and the worst case of "everything is black and white" I've ever seen, he has some interesting thoughts. In a fascist sort of way.
