hmmm... maybe I'm a 17th-er...

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote.
[17th Amendment, U.S. Constitution]
This replaced the original:
The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, chosen by the legislature thereof...
[Article I, Section 3, U.S. Constitution]
Given the Angle (NV), Paul (KY), Miller (AK), and O'Donnell (DE) candidacies, I just might support repeal of the 17th Amendment...

... of course that assumes, as the Framers did, that state legislators would be upstanding persons of conscience, acting in good faith.
Not quite sure that formulation works.

Tho' I hope that the people of Nevada, Kentucky, Alaska, and Delaware REJECT the GOP loons (those would be Angle, Paul, Miller, and O'Donnell), I'm somewhat less than sanguine regarding sanity prevailing.

Recall:
No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.
