a day late...

Reflections on the anniversary of MLK's assassination.

As I've reported before, when Martin Luther King was assassinated I was a sophomore at Tulsa Central High School - the only integrated high school in the system. (7 white, 1 black, + Central.)

Relations between the races chilled noticeably the day after.

1968 was a good year to embark on "political awareness":
Tet offensive
MLK assassination
RFK assassination
Soviet suppression of "Prague Spring"
Riots in the streets of Chicago for Dem convention
Nixon elected President
Have we as a country learned anything in the past 40 years?

I don't know. There is reason for both hope and despair.

Me? Despite the evidence, I choose to be hopeful.

Peace.
