Dem. wins election to fill Hastert seat

CHICAGO - A longtime Republican district fell to the Democrats Saturday when a wealthy businessman and scientist snatched former House Speaker Dennis Hastert's congressional seat in a closely watched special election.
In the best of all possible worlds this is a harbinger of things to come.
My preference: every Republican Congressman loses in November, together with every Republican Senator up for re-election.
I want November 2008 to be a memorable historical bloodbath for the Republicans. McCain carries 0 states, no Republican candidate elected to Congress, no Republican candidate elected to the the Senate.
A complete, total, overwhelming repudiation of W.
No, I do not expect this result, but there's no law against dreaming (not yet, at least!).

A beautiful dream. There is a real possibility that the Dems could get the 60 seats in the Senate to make it fillibuster proof. That would go a long way into putting Karl Rove, Harriet Miers, Gonzales and the minions in the Justice Department behind bars.
