Sorry, folks, this "news" was known before the 2003 invasion.

Saddam: secular fascist state - last thing in the world he wants is religious fundamentalism to infect the country.

al Qaeda? Saddam's Iraq is a godless heathen state - last thing they want is to be seen in Saddam's presence.

This is not news. This was well-known and well-understood long ago. ... well, maybe not by Wolfowitz - but he's the fellow who asserted that, "Iraq has no history of ethnic strife."
