A gentle reminder: W, in his own words

Lots of folks have commented on this recently, so I'll be brief.

W's Second Inaugural Address:
"... it is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world."
... and today?

Bush Avoids Criticism of Mubarak
By STEVEN LEE MYERS, NYT

SHARM EL SHEIK, Egypt — President Bush lavished praise on President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt on Wednesday, emphasizing the country’s role in regional security and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process while publicly avoiding mention of the government’s actions in jailing or exiling opposition leaders and its severe restrictions on opposition political activities.

Yesterday he met with Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah - the absolute monarch of a theocratic regime - to strike an arms deal and beg for cheaper oil.

The day before he spoke about democracy from Abu Dhabi - an emirate not known for its democratic or human-rights traditions.

W's best bud in the fight against al Qaeda? Musharaf - the dictator of Pakistan.

Stop the madness!
