Iraq to reinstate Saddam party followers

BAGHDAD - Iraq's parliament passed a benchmark law Saturday allowing lower-ranking former members of Saddam Hussein's Baath party to reclaim government jobs, the first major piece of U.S.-backed legislation it has adopted.
As I understand this, it means that school teachers and others will be able to work again. Low-level "Baathists", whose party membership enabled them to work under Saddam, but whose hands aren't bloody - these folks are now allowed back into government... to the extent that "government" means local schoolboards, bureaucrats who kept ministries running, and so on.
Hooray! Yes, this IS good news.
[Recall: it was Paul Bremer, our Medal of Freedom-winning Iraq Viceroy, who expelled ALL so-called "Baathists" in the first place! - thus crippling basic administrative functions in Iraq for 4+ years!... STOP THE MADNESS.]
