Theme 2: Run on the Constitution.
Both of these have been covered before. Since more recent posts have stressed, "Run on W's record (and make Republicans run on W's record!)", I'll use this post to return to second theme: Run on the Constitution.
Our national strategic objectives? Simple! The Preamble:
We the People of the United States, in Order to
- form a more perfect Union,do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
- establish Justice,
- insure domestic Tranquility,
- provide for the common defence,
- promote the general Welfare, and
- secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity
Here's a starting point for any campaign. All local, temporary issues should be subsumed under these six simple objectives.
The issue de jour may change. These six goals will not. Use 'em!
While you're at it... throw in a few little lessons from the Text:
Article VI: "... no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."
Amendment 4: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
[can you say, Protect America Act of 2007?]
Wrapping yourself in the Constitution & Bill of Rights might just make your Republican opponent look like the fascist he is! (ooh... is that too strongly pejorative???)
