Mr. President:
I strongly favor a CIVILIAN trial for Khalid Sheik Mohammed, NOT a military tribunal. Recent history - even recent history under your predecessor - suggests that civilian courts are fully competent to try alleged terrorists.
Furthermore, the U.S. Civilian Judicial System is the most transparent in the world. Resorting to a Military Tribunal to try Khalid Sheik Mohammed would compromise the proceedings - essentially establishing & exposing our judicial system as nothing but Soviet-like 'show trials'.
If the issue is locating an acceptable venue, may I suggest Albuquerque, NM?
I note that Albuquerque has a fully functional Federal Courthouse, that you have recently appointed a fully qualified U.S. Attorney for the region, ... and that most of the U.S. doesn't believe that New Mexico is a State! - That last might help absolve you of responsibility for honestly prosecuting Khalid Sheik Mohammed in a civilian court!
Finally, Albuquerque, NM, could use the economic stimulus which a trial of Khalid Sheik Mohammed would generate.
Please - DO NOT CAVE to the recalcitrant GOP on this issue.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed deserves a full, open trial, in a CIVILIAN court. - This not for Khalid Sheik Mohammed's benefit, but for OURS!
Sincerely,
Popeye As A Serial Killer?
