WASHINGTON – A classified Pentagon report urges President Barack Obama to shift U.S. military strategy in Afghanistan, de-emphasizing democracy-building and concentrating more on targeting Taliban and al-Qaida sanctuaries inside Pakistan with the aid of Pakistani military forces.
Yeah - let's concentrate more on killing bad guys!
That's been working really well for us!
Advantages:
1. Leaves the Afghans to fall back into anarchy on their own.
2. Further destabilizes Pakistan, and our relationship therewith.
3. Generates more bad guys for us to kill (see, e.g., Hydra).
A simple plea: GET THE PENTAGON OUT OF FOREIGN POLICY!!!
I'm more than happy to acknowledge the military's role in carrying out policy. BUT: the Pentagon has no business making foreign policy!!!
That's what the State Department is for.
Will I never stop saying it?
Stop the madness!!!
